Carol Frenning: “When We Build the Church: The Role and Formation of Liturgical Design Consultants”

This video is a webinar within an ongoing Webinar Series for the Association of Consultants for Liturgical Space. Building a church is a complex endeavor, involving many specialties, as well a congregation and its leadership. A Liturgical Design Consultant can be a most helpful bridge in the process, guiding the congregation through visioning and dreaming, the design and construction phase, and then assisting in the use of their new worship space. This webinar explores in depth the role of the Liturgical Design Consultant in building a church and presents a process for formation of Liturgical Consultants at St. John ‘s University School of Theology .
Our Presenter: Carol Frenning
Carol Frenning of Minneapolis, MN is an experienced award-winning liturgical design consultant working nationally. Carol attended the Institute for Liturgical Consulting at CTU in Chicago, and is a founding member and past president the Association of Consultants for Liturgical Space. She has taught at University of Saint Thomas, Metropolitan State University in the Twin Cities; guest lectured at the U of MN College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture and at Luther Seminary in Saint Paul. Carol’s research and publications on American religious architecture include the recent video and study guide Architecture for Worship. She has presented at major conferences – Form/Reform, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Sacred Trusts, and Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. In addition to her work with ACLS, Carol has been the Vice Chair Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art, and Architecture Committee of the AIA; She is an active member in the North American Academy of Liturgy; past president of the Minnesota Society of Architectural Historians; past chair of the art and environment committee for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. The Association of Consultants for Liturgical Space: ACLS members are liturgical consultants, artists, architects, and other professionals. We come from a variety of fields and backgrounds including the arts, art history, architecture, education, liturgy, and pastoral work. We are passionate about and active in the ministry of church art and architecture.
