Church of Christ the King

Guilderland, NY

Completed: 2002

This new, sixteen-sided church seats up to 750 people and combines design elements of early Romanesque churches with modern liturgical space and contemporary materials. The existing church was converted to support functions for the new Gathering Space and includes a Kitchenette, toilet rooms, sacristy, Choir Room and a large meeting room. The Master Plan also includes improvements to the existing school and rectory. The project was built with input from a pre-selected Contractor so that time and money could be saved during design and construction. The new construction portions of this project were completed by and dedicated the day after Thanksgiving of 2001. The remaining work was completed in March of 2002. This project has since been published in three national periodicals and received a Merit Award for Design from the Eastern New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2004. It was also the recipient of both the 2003 Edwin F. Guth Memorial Award of Excellence for Interior Lighting Design and the 2003 GE Edison Award of Merit.
