Education and analysis in Design Consultation. Prepare parish formation and educational sessions with handout materials appropriate to the topic and referenced by current church documentation in the vision of the Second Vatican Council. Assist in creating spaces for celebration, meditation and fellowship of a faith community by meeting, praying and listening to their physical and spiritual needs. Assist the community in refining its needs and in working toward a clear statement of a design proposal which realistically addresses the parameters of the project. Then, in collaboration with the community, I work to bring about a liturgical environment that will provide an inviting, welcoming, prayerful place of worship for this Christian community. I will serve as a liaison between the parish community, the architect and the diocesan liturgy building commission
I feel that the relationship of space and materials in the church building can enrich full active participation if they are harmonious. There is a tremendous opportunity to enhance the experience of the Assembly by applying the fundamental principals of design and theology from the curb to the altar. The overall feeling of the material and space flows from distinct character of the Assembly. Harmony of the material and space is, of course, best done as an integral component of the initial design. My role as a liturgical design consultant is to enable the community to examine what it means to be Church through the celebration of liturgies in a space that supports them by providing basic educational sessions while holding forth to the community the challenge to discern their future through the gifts of their past.
